MUP

The following is from a wonderful woman who was once my step-mom. She has been a missionary in Cambodia for many years and is getting ready to return in May. She and her adopted son Luka have spent a few months in the US with family. I told her I would try to help spread awareness of the situation in Cambodia, so that’s what I’m doing now.

Our pastor once asked us what has God put on our hearts to hurt for? Hungry children, rape victims, people who don’t know God, so many people in this world that need help. Many times I’ve wondered how can I, just one person, make a difference. But I think that spreading awareness is one way. Praying about it an even better way. And then taking the steps that God puts on your heart can make a huge difference. (I have a link to MUP (Mission to Unreached People) the organization Bonnie works for, on the right of this blog.)

      Hi everyone,

I find that it is easy for me when I'm here in America
to insulate myself from those in need and start
walking with outstretched arms toward those siren's
singing, "pursue the American Dream... buy more and
better stuff... you deserve it..." But, because of
a recent Dateline broadcast and an article in the
Cambodia Daily newspaper, I feel a particular burden
right now for young girls in Cambodia. Please read my
newsletter and check out the video clip identified
about the Child Sex Trade in Cambodia.

If you are already contributing to our work in
Cambodia... THANK YOU!
If you have friends who have a heart of compassion for
those who are suffering, please share with them about
our ministry. I will be happy to send you a DVD
which gives a great picture of what we do. If you
have not yet joined our support team, please consider
helping monetarily. We still have some personal
financial needs. In addition, I would like to
increase the number of girls for whom I finance an
education.

We, in America, have to means to intervene in the
lives of children in desperate circumstances. How can
we not do it?

Yours,

Bonnie

Fried Twinkies

Yep, I’m writing about fried Twinkies. My husband loves fried food, maybe more than anyone I’ve ever known. And since I was once burned from grease that came out of a commercial fryer, I don’t fry ANYTHING! So for a very long time Zale has wanted a home deep fryer, and he finally found the one he wanted. We joked that he was going to have to use it in the garage (I was only half kidding), but it’s in the kitchen and I can not be found in the kitchen when he is using it.

So back to the Twinkies. I never really thought about me benefiting from the fryer, but oh have I. I know, I know, it’s not healthy and for someone who is constantly trying to lose weight, the last thing I need in the house. BUT, sometimes the food is worth it. Anthony (our 14 year old) mentioned frying Twinkies, and it was something we had joked about before (and seen on Food Network). The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to try it. So, I picked up some pancake batter (didn’t want to waste time making it from scratch) and some Twinkies. My husband did the honors of frying them, and oh man was it good!!!!! Maybe one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. I have recently purchased another box of Twinkies so he can “practice” with his new fryer some more, but unfortunately (or fortunately for my hips) he hasn’t had time to make an encore batch.

So for anyone out there with a sweet tooth and a deep fryer, I highly recommend frying up a Twinkie! Just dunk it in pancake batter first and throw it in the grease. YUM!!!

Station Family Fund

My husband and I are watching VH1s Station Family Rock tribute. Many of you may remember 5 years ago when Great White was playing at a club and faulty pyrotechnics in the show caused a fire that killed 100 and injured many more. In 1992 I was burned with grease while working in a restaurant. I wasn’t burned with fire, but this story still touches my heart maybe more than someone who hasn’t experienced that hurt and won’t always carry the scars of a burn. I never intended this blog to be all about charities or giving, but you will see quite a few posts that feature causes that are close to my heart. If this one touches your heart too, their website is www.stationfamilyfund.org .

Warrior

My family and I attend Lifechurch.tv. This weekend we started a new series called Warrior. It’s geared towards men, so I wasn’t sure if I would like the service, but it was amazing. Our pastor pointed out that the church, as a whole, tends to emasculate men. I think it happens all over, not just church. Think about all the commercials and sitcoms that depict men as nothing but bumbling idiots.

I don’t know about all women, but I know for me it’s good to have a strong man as a husband. It’s good to have a man who can be the head of the household and the spiritual leader. I’m not talking about being in a relationship where the wife only speaks when spoken to and is more of a maid and a cook or only does what she’s told. I’m talking about a relationship and marriage that is the way God intended it to be. And it’s really good to know that I have a husband who would fight for me and our family in whatever way he needed to.

I encourage you go to Lifechurch.tv and check out the podcast of the service, I think it’s a great encouragement to men, and women should see it too. If nothing else than to learn more about men and find out how we can best support them, which is good for the marriage and the whole family. God Bless!

Vista…you’ve got to be kidding!!!!!!

So I never thought I’d have a Blog. My wonderful husband, Zale has been trying to talk me into doing one for a while now. But I didn’t think I would have the time. What with having a 14 year old son, a 2 and a half year old daughter, and a 7 month old daughter that I’m nursing. Then a friend of ours from church, Jason Elkins, started a blog that I contributed a few stories to. (TransparentChristianMagazine) After coming up with more to write than what I thought, I figured I’d give mine a shot. So here it is.

Now, back to VISTA. I’ve been using a Sony Vaio that my (awesome) Dad gave me a couple of years ago. It’s been a good laptop, one I’ve been very grateful to have! But, I think it’s run its course. It can’t be used without being plugged in (even though we’ve tried a new battery) and there are times that it takes several tries to get it booted up. So, last night my wonderful husband bought me a new laptop.

I’ve never used Vista before. In fact for the last year or so I’ve been completely spoiled by Linux. We get my new laptop home and I couldn’t believe how slow and how annoying Vista was. Out of frustration I finally looked at my husband and said forget it, let me know when you’ve got Linux loaded on it, and then I’ll use it. I am not the “techie” in the house, so anytime something has to be done to the computers it’s turned over to him. And at times my Dad is our consultant :) .

I am looking forward to the freedom of using my laptop the way it was intended to be used, meaning anywhere!! And I hope this blog will bring you laughter and enjoyment for a long time! (Powered by Linux….NOT VISTA!!!)

God Bless!
