What is it with the pee????!!!!

July 31, 2008 at 3:28 pm (kids, misc) (, , , )

I realize that some readers may not want to hear about pee, but it’s what’s been going on in my life, so I’m blogging about it.

Yesterday, I was nursing Reagan and getting her to sleep, so I wasn’t really in a position where I could jump up and move around quickly. Timing is just everything sometimes. Anyway, I told Hannah to go pee in her potty because I knew it had been a long time. She was just in my line of sight in the other room. I glanced at her and noticed she was sitting on her potty so I thought everything was fine. A few minutes later I notice her pants are on the floor and she’s doing her best to turn into a pretzel to try and look under the potty. Then she looks up and says, “Mommy, the cup is over there”. That meant that the little bucket that goes under the potty to catch the pee, was not where it was supposed to be. It was two feet away from her potty. And that meant she was peeing right on the carpet. UUUUGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! I was able to put Reagan down without her waking up, thankfully, and clean up the pee.

This morning, I was taking a shower while the girls are playing in their room. I asked Anthony to keep his door open so he could keep an eye on them and make sure they didn’t kill themselves or each other. I got out of the shower and noticed Hannah was in the living room watching TV. As I walked towards their room to check on Reagan, out she comes, soaking wet. I knew it could only be one thing and my heart sank. Sure enough, Hannah had gone pee pee in her potty (which was in their room) while I was in the shower, and didn’t tell Anthony. Reagan found it, dumped it all over the carpet, and played in it. UUUUUGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!

Zale priced hardwood flooring yesterday, so as soon as we have an extra $2000 the carpet is coming out! This house was built about 10 years ago, the carpet is the original carpet. I don’t think the previous owners ever cleaned it, and with our kids and animals it’s only gotten worse. Even after having it professionally cleaned twice, and cleaning it ourselves every couple of months or so, it’s still horrible. I can’t wait to personally rip it out!!!!

work out diary, Wednesday update

July 30, 2008 at 8:29 pm (work out, yard work) (, )

I was able to get back out and finish push mowing the back yard. Earlier today I was probably out there almost an hour. This evening it was probably 30 minutes or so. It wasn’t so much that it needed it, but part of it was done with the riding mower a couple of nights ago and I wanted it to look even. I was trying to even up the side yard (that I did with the rider earlier this week) too, but it started to thunder and was getting dark anyway. I’m glad I was able to get done what I did, and that I got a chance (thanks to hubby for watching the girls!) to work out twice today.

Now I think I’m going to try to get 20 minutes on the elliptical.

Work out diary, Wednesday

July 30, 2008 at 1:42 pm (work out, yard work) (, )

So far today I can log that I push mowed most of the back yard (the back yard is about 1/4 of an acre) and part of the side yard. Some of it had been done a couple of nights ago with the riding mower, but I wanted to finish it with the push mower for the exercise. Finally, an hour and a half later, and after a cold shower, I’m cooling off. :)

Hopefully we’ll be able to take a walk this evening, but I’m definitely waiting until it cools off some!

Lilly (and Oz)

July 29, 2008 at 11:53 pm (pets) ()

This is Lilly, in her favorite spot. Right on top of the vent under Dad’s desk. I think this use to be Oz’s spot, but Lilly is all girl and took it from him. He’s too good natured, or maybe just too tired to fight for it. Lilly is a very affectionate dog, but doesn’t have ANY doggy manners. Although I have to say she is getting better. Dad rescued her a couple of years ago thinking she would be a good companion for Oz. I don’t know that it turned out quite the way he planned, but she is a good girl.

Here’s a picture of Oz and Lilly together at the foot of Dad’s bed. I’m quite sure Dad had to snap the picture pretty quickly since it’s rare that they stay this close together if they’re not rolling around trying to kill each other.

Can’t you just see the pleading in Oz’s eyes……”Daddy, can’t you do something with her?? This use to be my spot, why do I have to share???”

Trying out for the WWF / WWE (whatever it’s called)

July 29, 2008 at 11:43 pm (kids) ()

Tonight Hannah and Reagan were “playing” in an over sized chair. When Zale and I first got together we both fit into this chair with room to spare. This is because I was thin then. Anyway, it’s still big enough for them to have fun with. We push it up against the couch so they don’t fall off.

At one point Reagan was leaning against the arm of the chair with her back to Hannah. I just happened to look over in time to see Hannah (my sweet adorable little girl) grab Reagan’s shirt (with both hands) and casually but forcibly toss her on her side.

Of course Reagan hit her head on the back of the chair (that was without it’s cushion) and started crying. So I jump up, pick Reagan up, get onto Hannah, make her say she’s sorry to Reagan and give her a kiss. This hurts Hannah’s feelings to no end and I have two crying babies on my hands.

I still can’t believe Hannah did that. But it’s okay, no serious damage. I do wonder if Hannah picked up that move somewhere or if it’s something she made up on the fly. I hope it’s not a sign of what’s to come. But it wouldn’t surprise me if it was.

work out diary, Tuesday continued…

July 29, 2008 at 11:29 pm (family, kids, pets, work out) (, , , , )

This evening Zale and I loaded up the girls for a walk around the neighborhood again. Yea!! :) Walks with Zale are great because it gives us an extra chance to talk about our days. The girls are usually preoccupied with the scenery, so we don’t have interruptions. Halfway through our first trip around the block we realized Zale was wearing sandals instead of walking shoes. So after one trip we stopped back at the house so Zale could change shoes. Here’s a short conversation between Hannah and I (we were waiting in the garage) while Zale was in the house changing shoes:

Hannah: “Mommy, what’s that up there, mine? (As she points to the top of a shelf where we keep some of our camping gear, the girl doesn’t miss a thing!)

Me: “That’s your Dora camping chair”

Hannah: “I want it”

Me: “You don’t need it right now, it’s for camping”

Hannah: “WELL, I WANT IT!!!!!!!!!”

Me: “Well, we can’t always have what we want”

Luckily for me, Zale came back out, with our Boxer, Gracie, so I was saved from a simple conversation turning into a meltdown. We made it around the neighborhood two more times, and may have gone for more, but Gracie is a bit of a lightweight and looked like she was about to pass out.

Then, after dinner, some family time, and baths, I made it back upstairs for another 20 minutes on the elliptical / torture machine, while finishing an episode of Boston Legal. I also did 50 crunches on the exercise ball, but it’s been so long since I’ve done those I’m not sure I did them right.

All in all it was a great work out day. Here’s hoping I can find time to walk or mow or something, tomorrow! :)

Such a good boy!!!

July 29, 2008 at 2:23 pm (family, kids, pets) (, )

Oz

Oz

This is my “brother”, Oz. I call him my “brother” because he’s a big part of our family. And he’s such a good boy! He puts up with so much from Lilly (I couldn’t find a good picture of her, but I’m hoping Dad will send me one… hint, hint) and he’s so good with the kids. Occasionally when we’re all outside he’ll nip at the kids heals a little cause he’s trying to herd them, but when we’re inside they climb all over him and he doesn’t seem to mind at all. Oz is a very loving and emotionally challenged dog. He’s very attached to Dad and misses him greatly when Dad is out of town. But that doesn’t stop him from being a very good boy! In fact, I’m not sure he even realizes he’s a dog. :)

Misunderstanding

July 29, 2008 at 1:51 pm (family, kids, mistakes, relationships) (, , , , )

Earlier today Zale called on the house phone’s intercom to see what the weight and heights are for the kids. (We’re looking to redo our health insurance) I guessed on the girls, but didn’t have a clue about Anthony, so I knocked on the wall (his bedroom is on the other side of the living room wall, knocking on the wall is easier than yelling for him) to get his attention. He poked his head around the wall and I said “go weigh”. He looked at me with a hurt expression and went back in his room. I was a bit irritated because the scales are in my bathroom and I thought he was ignoring my request. So I knock on the wall again, he pokes his head around the wall and I said “Go Weigh”, a little louder this time because I was irritated. With that hurt expression he said, “why are you telling me to go away?”  Poor thing, I felt so bad. This time I explained what I meant and he did it. But I could tell he was still hurt. I’ve apologized several times and given a couple of hugs (that he tolerated). I also told him that I would never tell him to go away.

I know as parents our goal is to raise them to be self sufficient so they can leave the house and make it on their own, but I’m not looking forward to that day!

This little misunderstanding is also a good example of how fragile our kids can be when it comes to what we say to them. A good reminder for myself to always be careful to not say anything to them that will make them feel unwanted or unloved.

Work out diary, yesterday & today

July 29, 2008 at 1:14 pm (kids, work out) (, , , )

Yesterday, late morning, I had a little bit of a surge of energy and decided that it would be a good idea to take advantage of it. So I took the girls for a walk around the neighborhood. I didn’t realize that instead of it being a warm sunny day, our neighborhood had somehow been transported into a very large sauna. I wanted to make it four times around the block, but after twice I was sweating from every pore as if I had spent half an hour on the elliptical. So even though it was only twice, I’m still going to count it as a pretty good work out.

Today I think it’s even more humid than yesterday, so I took advantage of Zale taking a brake before going to a meeting and worked out on the elliptical / torture machine for 20 minutes. Since it’s the first time I used it in I don’t know how long, I was a little surprised that I could do 20 minutes without stopping. I might have been able to go 30, but I wanted to grab a shower while Zale was still watching the girls and just didn’t have the time. It’s still early in the day so I’m hoping I can do something else to add to the diary before the day is over….I guess we’ll see. :)

I am happy to report that I’m down 25 pounds since Reagan was born. Not near where I wanted to be 11 months later, but I’ll take it! If I really work at it maybe I can at least be down what I gained during the pregnancy by her 1st birthday. Maybe. :)

Fasting

July 29, 2008 at 12:57 pm (encouragement, family, food, friends, lifegroup) (, , , , )

Sunday I found myself praying a lot for a good friend who is really struggling with life in general. As I was praying I felt God speak that quiet voice that told me to fast for her. So yesterday I did. As I was telling Zale about it he asked if my response was the same as his is. I asked what that was and he said that when he’s lead to fast his first response is usually “CRAP!!”. Not because we don’t want to do what God leads us to do, but because we are a family who LOVES to eat. I replied that it wasn’t my first response, but when I heard that still quiet voice tell me it needed to be for the whole day and not just breakfast and lunch like I normally do, then the reaction was….”CRAP!”

But I did a 24 hour fast, it wasn’t easy. Especially since we were having life group and I did a desert theme because it’s what we had available in the house. I spent the day baking a cake, brownies, and two kinds of cookies. I didn’t even lick the spoon!!! Quiet an accomplishment. I found myself wondering how many extra calories I consume when I’m cooking or baking just by licking the spoon or the bowl or my fingers (don’t worry, I don’t double dip). I would bet it’s a lot! I’ll have to keep that in mind next time I’m cooking or baking.
