Why does everything hurt worse at night?

I’m sorry I haven’t posted anything in a few days. Friday I developed an ear infection that only got worse over the weekend. I got into the doctor’s office as soon as possible Monday. Because I’m still nursing I’m limited to what kind of medication I can take. For a few minutes I thought about weaning Reagan on the spot so I could take a nice pain killer and sleep until the pain went away, but it’s a little soon to wean her and I’m not ready for that yet.

So today (Tuesday) I’m finally feeling more human again. From Friday to yesterday afternoon (when I got a good antibiotic in my system) I was completely useless.  Zale was awesome. He sent me to bed, took care of the kids, drove Anthony and his girlfriend around as I would normally do, did laundry, cleaned the house, and on and on. I felt bad that he was doing so much, but very grateful! He even took time from work, loaded me and girls into the car and took me to the doctor’s office. I was managing the pain with Motrin, but my ear was so swollen it was even down in my neck and part of my cheek, it hurt to move my head and I didn’t feel comfortable driving. So thank you, thank you Zale for being such a wonderful husband and father!

Anyway, back to my original question, why does it have to hurt worse at night? I couldn’t understand why I would take the same meds at night as I did during the day, but not be able to get comfortable enough to sleep. And yet I could take naps during the day without as much problem. I know, I know, if you sleep too much during the day, you won’t sleep at night. But that wasn’t it, I could’ve slept if not for the throbbing, stabbing pain in the side of my head.

I’m extremely thankful it wasn’t it both ears and thanks to good drops and meds (that are okay to take while nursing) I’m beginning to feel like me again. That’s a wonderful thing!!

By the way, I didn’t see the Doctor I noted above, I saw his PA, Kenneth Tanner, who is awesome. He’s treated me for over a decade, even seeing me through gall bladder surgery. I didn’t see him for a couple of years because he changed offices and was a bit further away. It’s worth the drive!!! Mr Tanner is extremely personable, actually listens unlike some doctors who want to interrupt and hurry you out of the office so they can make more money (more on that later). Mr. Tanner didn’t rush the visit, it was a very relaxed setting and he even did a bit of research in the office to make sure he was giving me medications that would be okay to take while I’m nursing. It was the best doctor’s office experience I’ve had in a long time.
