Work out diary & Racquetball

Friday night I was able to get back on the elliptical for 30 minutes. Considering we had eaten dinner at Carrabba’s, I needed every minute of it! We did walk around the mall after dinner, but I don’t know that I burned many calories.

Saturday morning I tried something new. Racquetball. Sports isn’t something I’ve ever really been interested in, but I thought, why not give it a try? My Dad loves it, my husband likes it, Aunt Penny loves it, so there must be something to it. I went to the civic center where my Dad, his friend Chet, and Aunt Penny were playing. (A little side note here, the last time my Dad played Racquetball with Chet, he had a heart attack. He won 2 out of three games, but then he had a heart attack. Admittedly part of me wanted to be there for his first game after being cleared by the doctors, especially since he was playing Chet, but I was also there to learn.)

After their game was over, Penny was nice enough to teach me what she could in 15 or 20 minutes. Why not longer? Because I’m a wuss and despite time on the elliptical am still grossly out of shape. I was actually surprised at myself, I could hit the ball every now and then. Normally I don’t have any hand / eye coordination and I throw a ball worse than a girl. So I was extremely happy to see I could hit the ball. And it was fun!!

Watching them play, I couldn’t really understand why they were soaked with sweat. It’s not a huge court, it’s not as if they are running around like when people play tennis. BUT, within a few minutes I was sweating. After I went after the ball once I thought I had pulled a muscle in my leg. After I went for the ball a second time I thought I had twisted my knee. Fortunately I hadn’t, my body just isn’t use to moving that way. After that 15 or 20 minutes I was hooked. I still have so much to learn, but I’m looking forward to it!!

Even more surprising, when I was telling Zale about it in the car on the way to church, Anthony and Paige were listening and even expressed some interest in playing. How cool is that???!!!

Needless to say I didn’t get on the elliptical Saturday. That short bit of time “playing” (I use that term very loosely) racquetball yesterday morning was enough of a work out for one day! :) I wasn’t expecting to be sore last night, but I was, a little this morning too.

Today, Sunday, started out as a lazy day. Zale was wonderful and watched the kids while I went back to bed and slept until 11:00. Yea me! It felt so good!!! Up until almost 3:00 was spent cleaning off the DVR, relaxing and playing with the girls. Around 2:30 I started to feel a little guilty about doing nothing, so at 3:00 I went up and got on the elliptical for 35 minutes (without stopping). My feet were killing me with that weird tingling thing, but I made it. I even tried thinner socks, but that didn’t help. Oh well, I’m just thrilled that my endurance is building! I hope to have many more days of working out and learning racquetball! If I could just get rid of my sweet tooth!
