Day 4
Day 4 of the Weight Watchers program, and I’m down 4 pounds. I know a pound a day won’t last, but I’m loving it while it does!!! I do have to say today has been a little harder than the other days. For some reason I can’t get food off my brain. All that means is that I need to get busy or go for a walk or something.
I have found (thanks to Zale) kettle Corn 94% fat free popcorn that’s amazing. It’s only 1 point and I can eat a lot of it (5 cups). So even though it’s not really filling, it usually hits the spot when you just want something to munch on.
Weight Watchers update
This is day three, I’ve been really surprised at how easy this is. I’ve only had to use a little bit of will power, but that was more for portion control. For example, I was able to eat real sugar cookies that Hannah and her Gran Gran made yesterday, just not as much as I would have wanted.
Who would have thought you could have real sugar and junk food on any diet!? Even after all the good/regular food that I can eat on this program, I’ve lost 3 pounds so far.
I’m not real excited about the 3 pounds yet, I think there’s a part of me who’s still leary about being able to eat (literally) anything you want, and still lose weight. I know it’s all about portion control, and I think I’ll be more confident about it after an official weigh in on Saturday. If I’ve lost 7 pounds or something like that, then I’ll start getting excited!
Work out diary, Monday
I thought about trying to go play racquetball yesterday morning, but Zale wasn’t feeling good and I didn’t want him to have to deal with the girls alone for a couple of hours. That’s not a fun thing to do when your sick! But I did make it upstairs to use the elliptical / torture machine for 30 minutes. I wasn’t sure I was going to make it, but I pushed on and did it. Yea! I’m hoping I can steal another 30 minutes today for the elliptical or taking a walk.
Here we go….
After racquetball practice Dad and I headed straight to the Weight Watchers center to join the program. It was a bit nerve racking, but I know other people who have been very successful with it, and I need to do something different!
I’ve been reading the packet they gave me, calculating points and today is my second day to be on it. Yesterday, the first day, wasn’t so bad. I didn’t stay hungry and was able to eat a lot of good food. I think this is going to be a really good thing.
And, when you exercise you get to add points to your day, so soon I’ll be on the elliptical…
Zale is being awesome and is doing it with me, that helps a lot to know we’re on the same program and I’ve got such good support between he and Dad. Thank you both!!!
who turned on the faucet?
Saturday Morning I met Dad / Coach for our weekly racquetball practice. About 20 minutes into it Dad left the court for a couple of minutes. I continued to attempt to hit the ball and make it go where I wanted it to. During the short time he was gone I began to sweat, ALOT, it was pouring off my face. When Dad got back he looked at me and said, “Did someone turn a faucet on your face?”. It was exactly like that too, you would have thought I had a water spout on top of my head.
That’s what I like about racquetball though, it’s such a great work out!
last trip to Krispy Kreme
Last week my Dad offered for he and I to join Weight Watchers. I’m pretty sure he’s just doing this for me, and I’m very grateful! I’m not sure I would have walked in there alone. Anyway, we decided to start after our racquetball practice on Saturday. So I probably gained a few pounds last week over eating what I thought I would be deprived of during this diet. (Wish I had known you truly can eat anything with their point program)
Friday night Zale and I joked about going to Krispy Kreme one last time and then we decided to go. After Anthony got off work we headed out to the nearest Krispy Kreme, about 15 minutes away. The Hot sign was on, we picked a good time to go! I ate a lemon filled, a cream filled, and a regular glazed. (20 Weight Watchers points.) It was a good last supper
a walk with the girls
Around 6:30 tonight I was fading fast. I figured if there was going to be any walking I’d better hurry up and do it. Hannah decided she wanted to walk instead of riding in the stroller, so I put Reagan in the umbrella stroller and off we went.
I was amazed that Hannah could actually talk the ENTIRE time we were walking. We counted birds on utilily lines, talked about the correct way to cross the road (stop, look both ways and hold Mommy’s hand), she talked about the grass, people’s houses, kids playing in their driveways, etc. I was really surprised that she didn’t want to go home, she wanted to keep walking. But I was afraid she wouldn’t be able to make it around a second time and there was no way I could have carried Hannah and pushed the stroller!
I don’t know that I can call it a work out since we had to go slow, I don’t think my heart rate ever increased. But we walked almost 30 minutes, so I figure it’s better than nothing.
Zale had softball tonight so he wasn’t able to walk with us. Maybe tomorrow….it was a nice night to walk. I’m so glad it’s cooling off. I love the fall.
dog in bath
Yesterday afternoon I was getting the tub ready to give the girls a bath. And by girls I mean Hannah and Reagan. I had just finished cleaning the tub and started filling it up with water, and of course bubbles. I knew Gracie was close by, and she probably needs a bath, but the next thing I know she leaped into the tub and just stood there looking at me like, “okay, here I am, start washing me.” If she wasn’t so darn cute she wouldn’t have gotten away with it. But she is, so she did.
I had to call for Anthony to help me with Reagan while I let all the water out, wiped down the tub and started all over again. Their baths were a little delayed, but everyone got clean, so it worked out okay. Gracie’s bath will have to wait a bit longer.
Grandma’s Chicken Pot Pie
Grandma’s chicken pot pie is probably the best food in the world. Her recipie calls for crust (made from scratch) on the bottom, sides, and top of a 9×13 baking dish. Let’s face it, there’s nothing better than a homemade crust. The filling is easy to make and has a touch of freshly grated nutmeg to give it that extra bit of flavor.
Here’s the thing, making crust from scratch is not one of my talents. I started the filling last night knowing I wouldn’t have time to make the crust, but thinking that the filling would just taste better today anyway. So around 9:30 this morning I started on the crust. Somehow I ended up making a double batch of filling, so then I had to make two pot pies. The dough and I were not friends today. It took me three hours to make and roll out two batches of dough. I told Zale this may be the last time I make Grandma’s pot pie. Until I’ve had a hands on lesson from Grandma. Since she lives in Alaska now, I’m not sure when that will be. She always makes it look so easy, and then I go to do it on my own, it’s not so easy!
Maggie
Have you ever seen a happier dog? You can actually see her smiling!
This is Maggie, Aunt Jean and Aunt Sharon’s German Shepard. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Maggie a couple of times when we visited Aunt Jean and Aunt Sharon in Baltimore. She’s just the sweetest dog ever! Maybe a little spoiled, but not in a bad way! She loves to play and run around the park. I’m looking forward to seeing her again, hopefully sooner than later! Aunt Jean and Aunt Sharon too, of course, but as we all say (and by all I mean me, Dad, Jean, and Sharon), it’s all about the dogs! In fact, the first time I met Maggie, Dad, his dog Oz (my “brother”), and I drove to Baltimore just to meet her. We drove up on a Friday (sometime in ‘03 or ‘04) and came home on Sunday. 12 or 13 hours each way. Crazy I know, but it was a great trip and if not for the girls being so small I have a feeling we would have done it a few times since then!
